On the sheep farm in Bystřice they leave nothing to chance, they keep their electric fences in 100% condition and take care of the security of the animals in the best possible way. The main reason for this is the fact that it is located in an area with an abundance of wolves, which local sheep and cattle farmers have to deal with. Another related reason is the fact that a remotely controlled and constantly monitored electric fence is, in Mr Cieslar's words, a convenience that will have an impact on both the physical and psychological health of any animal keeper.
Constantly monitoring or checking the voltage of electric fence with breeding animals comes in handy. This is doubly true for an electric fence with the purpose of protecting sheep and calves against predators. Wolves are intelligent animals that will take advantage of any shortage or even complete failure of the electric fence energizer.

Mr. Cieslar told us without much thought that this way he saves at least half of the time he would otherwise spend on unnecessary walking to and from the fence energizer. Regular checking of the electric fence becomes a breeze, as with a click on your phone you can find out if the fence is "kicking as it should" or if something is wrong.

On the sheep farm in Bystřice they deal with wolves in their own way. After several attacks on the sheep, Mr. Cieslar decided to choose the most effective way to protect his animals from these ruthless predators. He has built a precise electric fence (AOPK standard) without a single technical flaw, he has purchased a smart eletric fencing fencee with which he has absolute control and overview of the electrical security of his sheep, and last but not least he has also acquired several herding dogs that defend his flock even in the worst possible scenarios.
He divides his grazing into day and night. A "normal" day electric fence is about 120 cm high and has a total of 3 rows of fence wires. Usually the best quality conductive polywires you can buy, the cheap ones are said to be pointless due to lower quality, workability and durability. In the event of an unexpected attack by wolves in the daytime, he has his shepherd dogs on site, tirelessly guarding the sheep 24 hours a day. There is also a dedicated female Australian Kelpie who precisely chases the sheep when necessary.
The grazing area closest to the dwelling acts as a high-security night-time electric fence according to the current AOPK standard. Five rows of perfectly stretched wires and a 100% condition of electric fence powered by the high-performing energizer energy DUO RF EDX150 (15 J) impressed us. The measured voltage in the fence shows a value of up to 11,000 V. When we heard the opinion that a smart wolf always prefers to head to neighbouring farms with poorly built or even non-functional electric fences, we did not doubt it for a moment.
The farm currently manages over 80 sheep of the small Shetland breed, which is characterised by very fine wool in many colours and shades and is in considerable demand. We were intrigued not only by the variety of appearance but also by the variety of sounds of this breed - almost every sheep looks and sounds a little different. In a relatively large electric fence, they use what is known as rotational grazing, where the pasture is regularly divided into several sections which are grazed in turn. The sheep electric fence is located in close proximity to the dwellings, is situated on a fairly steep slope and is divided into three larger sections with varying degrees of security. The section closest to the house functions as a night-time electric fence, built according to AOPK standards and does not have a single weak point. As mentioned above, the best polywires are used almost everywhere, guided by laboriously hammered wooden stakes using good quality fence insulators. Mobile plastic fence posts are also seen in a few places and are also used to easily move the rotational grazing.
A remote pasture with cows and bulls totalling 6 heads is located in the neighbouring village of Nýdek. Here, almost the entire electric fence is also completely secured according to the AOPK standard, as there are young bulls in the fence, which are said to be at almost the same risk of being attacked by wolves. Moreover, there is a corridor along one side of the fence where wolves regularly walk and residents have been registering them there for more than 5 years. The permanent electric fence is constructed of wooden posts and sturdy steel fencing wire.
Both the sheep pen and the cattle pen are powered by high-performing Smart energizers energy DUO RF EDX with many practical features. One of them is the gradual increase of output power when the voltage in the electric fence drops from the nominal 33% up to 100% power (automatic measurement according to the current state/load of the fence).
